His team is as follows: Level 37 Koffing (Selfdestruct/Sludge/Smokescreen/Toxic), Level 39 Muk (Minimize/Sludge/Acid Armor/Toxic), Level 37 Koffing (Selfdestruct/Sludge/Smokescreen/Toxic), Level 43 Weezing (Tackle/Sludge/Smokescreen/Toxic). Your reward for beating him is the Soul Badge, TM06 Toxic, and 4,300 Poke Dollars.

Tips for Beating Koga[]

  • Psychic is key: Psychic types can sweep through Koga's team, as he has no

strategies that are capable of shutting them down quickly. Their super-effective STAB makes life much easier in this fight, too, especially considering how many moves he has that screw with your accuracy. Even Psychic-type coverage moves can do the job, if they're used by the right Pokemon.
  • Take advantage of subtle strategies: If you aren't lucky enough to have a Psychic type ready to sweep Koga, or simply aren't confident you can pull a sweep off within your circumstances, there are several ways to make life easier on yourself. For example, Stomp deals double damage to Muk if it's already used Minimize, and Poison types are immune to the poisoned status condition (in addition to resisting Poison attacks). Leveraging these little things can make a big difference.
  • Avoid setup strategies: Although boost-and-sweep and other combo strategies are generally very good, you shouldn't depend on them against Koga. The more turns you spend not doing damage, the more he's able to lower your accuracy and the more likely he is to inflict Toxic poisoning on you. Immediate damage is the way to go here, because a poorly timed miss is one of the worst things that could happen to a Nuzlocker.

Good Pokemon to Use[]

  • Psychic type sweepers: These are the premium answer to Koga. Powerful, speedy Pokemon like Alakazam and Starmie are able to dispatch Koga's team efficiently, which usually translates to the best possible outcome for the fight. Similarly powerful Pokemon that can learn Psychic by TM, like Gengar, are also acceptable, but less secure due to their lack of STAB on the move.
  • Poison types: There are a wide variety of Poison types out there, meaning that it's easy to fit one on your team, even if it's just temporary. Their immunity to Toxic and resistance to Poison attacks go a long way towards neutering Koga's offense, but they still have to watch out for Selfdestruct and accuracy shenanigans. Special mention goes to Nidoking and Nidoqueen, which both have exceptional movepools and can hit Muk with super-effective Ground STAB.
