Agatha is the third challenge in the Indigo Plateau gauntlet.

Spr FRLG Agatha

Agatha's FRLG battle sprite.

Her team consists of: Level 54 Gengar (Confuse Ray/Shadow Punch/Double Team/Toxic), Level 54 Golbat (Confuse Ray/Bite/Air Cutter/Poison Fang), Level 53 Haunter (Mean Look/Curse/Hypnosis/Dream Eater), Level 56 Arbok (Bite/Sludge Bomb/Screech/Iron Tail), Level 58 Gengar (Shadow Ball/Sludge Bomb/Hypnosis/Nightmare). Your reward for defeating her is passage to the next room and 5,800 Poke Dollars.

Tips for Beating Agatha[]

  • Come prepared to deal with status: Agatha's team is armed to the teeth with moves that cause status ailments. Confusion, sleep, flinching, The Ghost-type effects of Curse, and poison are all in her arsenal. Therefore, you should bring plenty of status-curing items and/or Pokemon that are immune to them by type or Ability.

  • Exploit her team's weaknesses without exposing your own: It may occur to you to use Psychic types against her Gengar and Haunter's secondary Poison type, and their STAB moves will indeed be super effective; however, Agatha's two Gengar will be able to strike back super effectively with their own Ghost STAB moves. Similarly, it is risky to use your own Gengar against Agatha. The best solution to this problem is to put super effective moves, like Shadow Ball and Psychic, on Pokemon not of the Psychic or Ghost type. Shadow Ball Snorlax, for example, has good potential to be effective against Agatha.
  • A balanced attacking strategy is best: Agatha's team doesn't have any glaring weaknesses to physical or special attacks, so you'll need to use your best of both to bring her down. For example, her Gengar have a slightly lower base Defense than Special Defense (implying physical attacks will do more damage, all other things equal), but her Arbok has Intimidate to neuter your physical attackers (implying special attacks are safer, all other things equal).

Good Pokemon to Use[]

  • Snorlax: Snorlax has really good bulk, an immunity to Ghost type moves, a potential immunity to the poison status through one of its Abilities, and access to a wide variety of moves that can make quick work of Agatha's team.
  • Fast Sweepers: One of the best ways to get past Agatha's status tricks is to simply defeat her Pokemon before she can set up any gimmicks. Thus, speed and power are useful allies against her. Pokemon like Charizard, Dragon Dance Gyarados, and Jolteon are good examples of this kind of team member.
  • Magneton: As a Steel type, Magneton has the distinction of resisting every single attacking move in Agatha's arsenal. It can even work around her lead Gengar's Double Team shenanigans with Shock Wave if you haven't used that TM already.
